I have a question regarding muscle contribution in amputees. We have the motion capture data from transtibial amputee. Do we have to model a transtibial amputee i.e removing ankle and some of the shank muscles to study the muscle activity and forces? Or could we use the normal lowerbody model and load the transtibial motion capture data to perceive muscle contribution in transtibial amputee?
Will they both be different? Please let me know your views about this.
If it is needed or not to create a modified bodymodel depends on the amputee level.
If the patient has several muscles which are removed or has been transferred? then this will impact the model.
As i wrote yesterday the model can be modified in different ways either directly in the code or by using mech object exclude.
Using the mech object exclude you could try something simpler first…
1 remove (use mechobjectexclude in the study) muscles which has no longer a function
2 if the subject no longer has a foot then instead of removing it in the model with the exclude statement add drivers to the joints making it stiff (and carry loads)
