Hi Natiq

Welcome to the group!

The fastest way to do this will be to base the model on an existing
application in the ARep part of the repository. There are currently
no models here that make use of only the spine model, they all have
either legs or arms attached.

I would reccommend to start out with the FreePostureModel, this is a
full body model which posture can be controlled by angles set in the
file “Mannequin.any”.

You can modify this model from being a fullbody model to a model of
the spine in the following way.

  1. In the FreePosture.mmain.any file find the line
    #include “…\BRep\Aalborg\BodyModels\FullBodyModel\BodyModel_
NoMuscles.any” In the main file FreePosture.Main.any”

replace it by
#include “…\BRep\Aalborg\BodyModels\Spine\BodyModel.any”
This will include the spine model instead of the fullbody model

  1. In the “JointAndDriver.any” file remove all drivers related to
arms and legs also the load folder in the bottom of the file.

This should create a spine model…

Please ask again if you have further questions

Best regards

Hi Natiq

This can only be done by doing modifications to the Brep part of the
repository. I would not recommend doing this as the first step.

The ribcage is one stiff segment removing the rib cage (Thorax
segment) from the model would have the effect that multiple muscles
in the spine would be missing a segment to attach to. So you would
have to identify and remove each of these muscles manually from the
model to be able to load the model again, after having removed the
thorax segment. Furthermore you would need to makes changes in the
joint.any file to remove the joint bewteen l1 and thorax.

Please explain in more detail why you would like these segments
removed?

Hi soren,
The purpose of my study is to make myself familiar with AnyBody and
then make changes in AnyBody Spine model according to our FE Model as
near as possible and then calculate muscle forces for different
situation which are not told to me.

Actually we have an FEM Spine Model and it does not have head on it
as for as rib cage is concerned i dont need to remove,as we have it
also.

so please guide me how to remove head.

with best regards.

Hi Natiq

Ok, sounds interesting.

To remove the head from the spine model you need to do the following:

1 find the file brep/aalborg/spine/SegmentsThorax.any
outcomment the skull segment

2 in the file brep/aalborg/spine/JointLumbar.any
remove the NeckJoint and NeckJointReaction

3 in your JointAndDrivers.any remove the driver for the neck joint

i think this will make the model load without the skull.

Best regards

Hi Natiq

I would choose the “LenghtMassFat” scaling, this is the one which will
normally give the best results. This law takes as the name suggests bone
length, bone mass and fat percentage into account.

For details about the scaling laws you can see

http://www.anybody.aau.dk/pdf/ScalingAbstract.pdf

and

http://www.anybody.aau.dk/pdf/ScalingPoster.pdf

Please ask again if you have further questions

Best regards

Hi Soren,
Thanks for your kind response.
Actually we are intersted in just Lubmer spine because our FE Lubmer
spine model has a height 158mm(the distance b/w nucleous of L1 and S1).
I wanted to scale AnyBody Stading Model so that i get the same of
height Luber spine and rest of the body should also be scaled
proportionly.
What you have told me it requires the Body mass and Height.
But i dont have Body Mass because we have just Spine model.

Please guide me.

Hi Natiq

If you are missing info about mass and height you will need to use the
UniformScaling instead I guess this law will scale the segments equally in
all directions to obtain the proper segment lengths.

For an example on a model using a scaling file please see the Gait3D model,
and have a look in the AnyMan.any file, this is where the different segment
lengths are defined.

Best regards

Søren

Hi Soren,
Thanks for your kind response.

Hi Soren,
I am trying to see the Psoas Major muscles but they are not being executed
although everything seems to be ok.
Can you please check in stading model or free psoture model?
I checked the Muscle executing file is same like other muscles file.

thanks in advance.

Hi Natiq

I have just tried the FreePosture model and it did give an activity in at
least one of the psoas major muscle elements.

It could be that for some postures and loading it will have no activity, it
will be different from case to case. So I do not think there is anything
wrong with the definition of this muscle.

Please ask again if you have further questions.

Best regards

Hi Natiq

I have checked the definition of the psoasmuscles please see for example
BRep/aalborg/Spine/PsoasMajorLeft.any.

Please see a line like

AnyDrawMuscle DrwMus = {#include “…/drawSettings/MusDrawSettings.any”};

If you double click the line you will see that the draw settings for these
muscles are the same as for all other muscles, namely the ones set in the
DrawSettings.any file in the application. This means that the visualization
of these muscles is done with the same settings as all other muscles in the
model.

You can play around with the settings in the Muscle folder in the
DrawSettings.any file this will let you see the muscles in different ways;
these changes will affect all muscles in the model.

Please ask again, if this does not solve the problem

Hi Natiq

I tried to run the FreePostureMove model with this body model

   #include

“…\BRep\Aalborg\BodyModels\FullBodyModel\BodyModel.any”

instead of the default one which is

   // #include

“…\BRep\Aalborg\BodyModels\FullBodyModel\BodyModel_NoMuscles.any”

When I did this, there was a clear bulging of some of the Psoasmajor
muscles.

Please write again if this does not solve the problem.

Best regards

Søren

Hi Natiq

I think i may have misunderstood the problem?

I thought that you was looking for muscle bulging and color change due to
activity, but now I realize that your problem is that you may not see the
Psoas muscle at all?

Looking at the article you listed, figure 10 displays the psoas major
muscle. When running a fullbody model the muscle will not look exactly like
fig. 10. , it will insert on the thigh instead of the pelvis, so maybe this
can create a misunderstanding?

Please also see

http://www.rad.washington.edu/atlas2/iliopsoas.html

If this is not the case, please dump a picture of the model, it will help
solve the problem.

I was using rep. 6.1, but it should not matter it should be present in all
repositories.

Best regards

Søren, AnyBody Support

Dear Natiq

Please create a screen dump of the pelvis region where the Psoas muscle
should have been visible and upload it to the file section of the group.
This will make it easier for me to help you.

Please also state which model the picture is created with.

Best regards

Søren
