Frictional contact

Søren:

I try to solve a frictional contact problem using the existing
tool “ContactSurfaceLinPush.any”. I wish to define the contact of a
cylinder with a finger at three locations,
using “ContactSurfaceLinPush.any”. It does not work. Can you take a
look at my model?

I up-loaded the model files “contact.zip”.

John Wu

Hi John

I have looked in the file section and I can not find the file “contact.zip”,
please try to upload it again.

Best regards

Søren, AnyBody Support

Søren:

I have simplified the problem: using Any3DForce instead of the
Contact untility you used. The model works. I can now also display
the contact force vectors.

But, I still have a problem. The contact force is to be applied at
the normal direction of the segments. But, it seems they are applied
in the directions defined in the global coordinate system.

Please try my model. Thanks, John

The model has been up-loaded: contact.zip

Søren:

I believe the utility tool for the frictional contact will not work
for my problem. I have solved my problem in a simple way: just apply
Any3DForce on the finger sections. I have up-loaded my
model “contact.zip”. The model works. But, I cannot see the contact
forces. Can you tell me how to display the normal and friction
contact forces? You can directly modify my files.

Thanks, John

Hi John

I have uploaded a new version of your model which draws the vectors in the
local coordinate system of the finger segments which I think if what you are
trying to do. The vectors was applied as forces acting in the local ref
frames of the segments, but displayed as global vectors.

With a small modification of your code they are now displayed as local
vectors.

The new zip file contact-st.zip also includes a screendump of how the
vectors look at my screen.

Best regards

Søren

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Søren:

I have tried the model. It works just like I want to see.

Thanks for the quick fix! I can now continue to build my model on
this base.
