I think I also didn’t introduce myself…My name is Silke, I am
studying at the TU Munich and in the moment I am writing my thesis…
Maybe it is a stupid question:
I canged an existing muscle model (elongated a muscle)and according to
that I got a higher muscle strength.
How can I trust this values? For example a muscle peak strength with
2500 N??? for Vastus Lateralis…
First of all welcome to the group.
No questions are stupid here, but I am not sure on what you did. If
you elongate a muscle the passive force will be greater if you use the
AnyMuscleModel3E muscle model. How did you optain the value of 2500 N?

I am using the “Gait3D” model, I elongated the muscle Vastus
Lateralis.I set the Gluteus Medius Node as Org point (the thesis is
in cooperation with a hospital and the doctor said I shall elongate
the Vastus Lateralis to the Gluteus Medius Node).
But I am not sure if this is OK?What about the high strength value?
Best regards,
Silke

ok, I see. The thing is with the Vastus Lateralis that it is a pennate
muscle and therefore when you elongate it, the muscle strength becomes
greater because there has to be more fibers. If you want the same
strength in the muscle as before I guess you can extend it with a
tendon or you can change the pennation angle so it will have the same
strength as before.
It is a interesting problem, hope you can use my reply, else write
again. Let us know what you do.
