problem about shoulder calibration

Hi everybody

I’m Reza, My MS project is in shoulder modeling field.

We have AnyBody software in my lab, I have utilized it for some
purposes, I used some parts of repository Arm3D in my model with a
dumbbell and I used muscle3 model to have hill model. In repository
there are some file about shoulder calibration but I don’t know how
to utilize it and I need to calibrate muscle-tendon length, Can you
please guide me or Is there any example to use calibration in
model ? I have seen many files in your group but I could’t find any
used calibration study from repository.

Also I have another question, how can I have joint forces and
moments as output, I know there is a command “anyforcemeasure” but I
don’t know how to use it.

with my best regards

Reza

Hi Reza

Welcome to the group

All the body models have build in calibration facilities, if they are using
the hill type muscles.

In the operation tree you will find a folder named humanmodel or bodymodel
if this is expanded you will an operation named Calibration Sequence this
operation should be done before running the inverse dynamic analysis.

The joint reaction forces is part of the default output from the model, you
need to find the joint in question and read out the forces of the joint.

For the arms it you will have to look in the output tree at a something like
this

…Study…HumanModel.BodyModel.Right.ShoulderArm.Jnt.GH.Constraints.Reaction.Fo
ut

For the gh joint the reactions will be three forces, because it is a
spherical joint, if looking at the elbow joint it would be three forces and
two moments because it is a revolute joint.

If you want to read out the moments that the muscles generate around the
joints the anyforcemoment measure is the best way, but if you model is a
kinematically open chain where the load is applied at the hands as an
external force not as a reaction force there are simpler ways of getting
this moment. In this case you can run the model with out the ordinary
muscles and read out the moments from the moment generation muscles in the
model directly. The _NoMuscles.any version of the models has instead of the
ordinary muscles, moment generating muscles on each joint dof., one for the
positive direction and one for the negative.

In case your model has real reactions in the hands this approach will not
apply since the real muscle may give you another results, but in if the load
is applied as an external load the approach is valid. So if you load is
applied as reactions in the hands you need to use the AnyForceMomentMeasure.
There is a small example in the “SmallExamples” folder in the file section
of group named AnyForceMomentMeasure.any, that gives some examples of the
use of this object.

Best regards
