Time varying Optimization Study

Hi,

I am interested in a time varying optimization study. I have a problem in which the optimization problem itself changes with time. I need to evaluate an optimized value for the moment applied at one of the joints whose position varies during the simulation and so is the optimized moment value.

If I have correctly understood it, the way optimization study is carried out in Anybody is that the analysis is carried for the entire simulation time and a value is chosen from the output vector based on which further evaluations are made. However, in my case I need to carry out optimization at each instant of time as the problem itself is time dependent. I also tried setting up a parametric study in which an optimization is carried out everytime. However, it is difficult to define simulation time as one of the design variables. Also, does the optimization study accept torque and forces as the design variables? I tried setting up optimization studies with torque as the design variables but the results were not quite intuitive.

I would appreciate any help in this regard.

Hi Priyanshu,

I am not sure i understand the problem entirely…

You are right that usually the optimization is carried out like you describe.

I am not sure if it could solve your problem but have you considered, to create a spline curve for your applied moment which shape was controlled by a number of control points. Then these control points could be your design variables, this would allow you to optimize the entire time sequence in one optimization study and still optimize the moment for each timestep.

Concerning the forces and moments, yes these can be used as design variable there is nothing special about these, all variables can be used even a body parameters.

Thanks Soren. I will try with the method you suggested.
