when do muscles generate force- attached a simple muscle model

Hi
I have been using AnyBody for the past one month and have gone through the
tutorials. I also tried to analyze some simple models to learn more. One
such model that I tried to analyze is a simple oscillating muscle model (a
sample fig of the model is attached with this mail). I used the
musclemodel3E for the muscles and used Fourier sine driver for the analysis.
(check the ppt file attached that shows the model and its features) In
veryfyin the output plots after performing inverse dynamic analysis, I am
able to get sinusoidal plots for both length variation and muscle force but
in that i find that when muscle is in extension it produces the force. Hence
I would like to know when do the muscles actually generate force- while in
extension or contraction, both in general and also with respect to my model.
I was of opinion that muscles generate force only by contraction. Hence I
request the group people to let me know clearly under what condition do the
muscles generate forces and how does “AnyBody” deal with this?
thanks in advance.
Regards
Madusudanan.

Please post a message when you have uploaded the files
