using full muscle model for trunk musles

Dear all

And Dear Prof. John
Thanks so much about answering so quickly

I have some questions:
I used StandingModel and I tried to make my model similar to model’s
of Dr. Mark DeZee (Journal of Biomechanics 40 (2007) 1219–1227.{I
erased leg, arm and shoulder and changed place of Psoas point(Leg to
Pelvic).
I limited pelvic in 6 direction (3 Reactive force X,Y,Z- and 3Reactive
moment).
After that I loaded model and I could get similar results.

1-Q-Can we see effect of via point for “erector spine” muscle?
2-Q-In what condition, we can see IAP effect in this model?
3-Q-I am seeing strange effect about activated muscles,I mean when we
used Force to Thorax to find MAX activity (MVC),all of trunk muscles
expect Psoas and Rec.Abd. were 100% active.(both extensor and flexor).
Is this right!!!, Is it depend to cost function?
Which of cost functions are real?
4-Q- How we can use full muscle model for trunk muscles?

Thanks so much.

Hi Mahmood

Sorry about the slow respond, I think your last question somehow slipped
through.

I will try to answer your questions:

1 please explain further what you mean by effect of via point muscles, I do
not understand what you are looking after?

2 the IAP will in general help extend the spine so if this is needed in the
model, it will be active.

3 It is normal that you will see many muscles sharing the same activity this
comes out of the definition of the recruitment problem. There are different
opinions which criteria is the right one, in principle we prefer to let the
user have different options, it is a matter of taste. Maybe it will be a
good idea to have a view in the tutorial
http://www.anybodytech.com/691.0.html it explains some of the possible
settings.

4 there is nothing that prevents this from being done in principle, but the
needed data to create the model is not there yet. This kind of muscle data
is difficult to obtain, so right now this is not possible due to lack of
muscle data.

I hope this helps you move

Best regards
