Exporting bone geometry

Hello there,

I am using the GaitLowerExtremity model and I want to export the femur geometry for use in ADAMS and perhaps at a later date ANSYS. If I click on the femur in the model view it highlights the folder drw3 under the model tab on the left. When I right click the folder I have the option to export surface and a box appears allowing me to save as an .stl file. When I name the file and click save, there is a short pause and I am presented with the following message: AnyBody.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am new to using AnyBody.

Cheers

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I’m sorry that you are experiencing problems. When i do the same, I get a stl file of the femur…
What version do you use, what repository do you use?

Please post the information that you get under “Help” and “About AnyBody” and what version of the repository you use.

This problem has been fixed in the newer version of AMS, which is to be released very soon. Please keep an eye on the updates.

Best regards,
Pavel

Amir,

The info under “About Anybody”:
AnyBody version : 5. 0. 0. 2014
Build : 14963.38760

Student License

The repository is version 1.3.1

Pavel,

I’ll keep an eye out for updates

Thanks to both of you!

Cheers,

Sandy

Hi Amir,

As I am still unable to get an stl file of the femur, would you be able to upload one here from the GaitLowerExtremity model?
I would be very grateful.

Regards,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I’ve attached the femur in local CS. A new release should come out on Monday  though…

Amir,

Many thanks!

Sandy

Hi Amir,

As it happens I haven’t been able to open the file you uploaded. I have tried it in Adams, Ansys, and Solidworks.
Adams gives the following message:

ERROR: Unexpected text found while reading file: ‘ˆffÝçÑÙç.ú’
ERROR: The text that the file reader was expecting: ‘outer loop’
ERROR: Unexpected text was read at line number 19057.

Ansys and Solidworks give no error message but fail to open the part.

What are you using to open the .stl file?

Regards

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

we may have attached a wrong file, but you should be able to open it in all of the above software. It sounds very strange. Here is the needed file - it can definitely be open using Meshlab (free software) and AMS, of course.

Regards,
Pavel

Thanks Pavel,

I can open this one in Adams without any trouble. Could I trouble you for an stl file of the pelvis from the same model?
It would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

sorry for the trouble with the first Femur. Actually the newest version of AnyBody v5.1 is ready to download and use on our website. In the latest version you\re able to export .stl files from your model in the same scale as preferred.
