I ran a simulation for running during the gait, and I exported the values of the hip contact forces, stored in h5 files, through MATLAB. For proximal distal force (vertical force), I got very few negative values during the swing phase. Is it possible to have negative values for the hip contact force during swing phase?

I would not be so worried if the negative values are close to zero. In the model, we don't have all the passive structure like ligaments that actually keep the joint in place. In the swing phase, the inertial force can result in slight negative force.
